Philipp Rosenthal (1855-1937) began his career as an assistant porcelain buyer in a porcelain importing company in Detroit, returned to Germany in 1879 and opened a porcelain painting business with two painters in Erkersreuth Castle. He obtained the material from the Lorenz Hutschenreuther porcelain factory. The company grew quickly and later gained worldwide fame with the help of artists such as Hundertwasser and Dali.
