Drawing as a technique of world development is the focus of a cooperation project that develops the Hamburger Kunsthalle (Kupferstichkabinett) with the University of Hamburg (Art History Seminar) and the Hamburg State and University Library. In two parallel exhibitions, drawing learned at the academies and in the artist’s studios is presented, as well as the amateur drawing practiced in private: In the Harz Cabinet of the Hamburger Kunsthalle, the focus of the presentation is on hand drawings of the 15th – 19th century. century, which show the potential of artistic-scientific drawing as an instrument of knowledge transfer and gaining knowledge. In addition, selected representations of learning situations will be on display in studios and at the aca¬demics. The Hamburg State and University Library focuses on an unexplored compendium from the late 17th century by the hand of Joachim Etzekiel Levezow that combines drawings from the fields of anatomy, antiquity and natural history. The Levezow album served to capture visual information and a topical order of knowledge that make the drawing book a compendium of binding aesthetic norms and available knowledge. With the cooperation project, the subject art history can be presented as an image science discipline and convey the relevance of drawing development, documentation and fixation of knowledge content in a digitally shaped world.
